I support parents in group therapy when:

Your child’s behaviour feels explosive, unpredictable, or overwhelming.

In the group, we make sense of what’s driving these reactions and explore grounded, practical strategies together so you can bring more calm back into your home.

You feel like you’ve tried everything, but nothing seems to work.

As a group, we unpack what truly matters, share what’s worked for others, and help you build a plan that fits your unique child and family.

You’re exhausted from constant arguments, defiance, and pushback.

We work together to strengthen calm boundaries, reduce power struggles, and learn ways to create more cooperation — without battles or burnout.

You worry you’re failing your child or “messing them up.”

Group support helps you replace self-doubt with compassion and clarity. You’ll hear other parents say, “I feel that too,” and realise you’re not alone — or failing.

You feel alone, judged, or misunderstood by other parents or professionals.

In this group, you’re surrounded by parents who get it. You don’t have to defend your parenting or explain your child — you’re met with understanding and validation.

Big feelings take over your home: meltdowns, anxiety, shutdowns, school refusal.

Together, we explore proven tools that reduce overwhelm and support your child to cope and re-engage while giving you the steadiness you’ve been seeking.

About

Tamar Sloan, Psychologist

Hi, I’m Tamar Sloan. I help parents who are living in the thick of challenging behaviour — the defiance, the aggression, the explosive moments that leave you exhausted and questioning yourself.

My therapeutic style is grounded, warm, and realistic. With one of the highest levels of training in Relational Parenting, I use this approach in a way that’s easy to understand and doable on even the hardest days. I’ve spent my entire career supporting young people with big emotions: first in residential care, then in education, and now in private practice.

Along the way, I’ve run dozens of parent groups and I’ve seen firsthand the power of being in a room (or Zoom) with other parents who get it. The relief, the normalisation, the “oh… it’s not just us.” Group support creates a kind of confidence and connection that individual sessions alone can’t always reach.

Again and again, I see the same thing: caring parents doing everything they can, yet feeling alone, overwhelmed, and unsure where to turn. That’s why I believe therapy is change — and change begins with feeling supported, understood, and safe.

If you’re ready to step out of daily battles and towards a calmer, more connected home, I’d be honoured to walk that journey with you, alongside other parents who are right there too.

GOT QUESTIONS?

I've got answers

What kinds of behaviours is this group designed to help with?

This group is for parents dealing with defiance, aggression, meltdowns, intense emotions, constant pushback, or daily battles that leave you feeling overwhelmed. This often includes neurodivergent children - ADHD, Autism, and anxiety. If your child’s behaviour feels “bigger” than what most families deal with, you’re in the right place.

Do I have to share personal details or speak in the group?

Only if you want to. Many parents start by listening, and that’s completely okay. There is never any pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. Most parents naturally open up over time as they feel understood and supported.

What will I actually learn or walk away with?

You’ll learn grounded, practical strategies to respond to challenging behaviours with more calm and confidence. You’ll understand what’s happening beneath the behaviour, know how to set boundaries without battles, and build a path toward a calmer, more connected home.

How is group therapy different from one-on-one sessions?

In group therapy, you get the support of a psychologist and the powerful normalisation that comes from hearing other parents say, “Yes… we’re dealing with that too.” Parents often find group support more validating, less isolating, and rich with real-life insights and hope. It's often more affordable, too.

You don't have to do this alone.
